Jordans Environment Trust was formed as a charity and limited company in 1973, by residents of Jordans & Seer Green in response to their concern about land in the area being bought for development and the loss of the local open landscape.
The trust began with initial donations from residents and JET acquired a long lease on a field on Longbottom Lane, which has been let in the past to local tenants as pasture for Shetland ponies and currently as grazing for four horses.
A Jordans resident donated to JET a large piece of her garden which was used as
allotments until it was assigned to Jordans Village Limited for the building of Chelsey Garden Cottages to be let to older village residents. JET still holds covenants on the land.
Another resident donated a sum of money so that the Trust could earn some interest.
Over recent years, JET has made grants ranging from £300-£2000 for local projects and amenities to benefit local residents and improve the local environment.
With increasing risk of development in the area, JET is mindful of the need to look
towards the possibility of seeking donations to purchase or lease areas of open land should they become available.
JET is a registered charity with Gift Aid status.
